God Speaks From the Whirwind

Preacher: Charlie Aslund Scripture: Job 38:1–41

  1. GOD DOESN’T ANSWER JOB’S QUESTIONS—HE ANSWERS JOB’S HEART

Job never gets the “why.”
He gets the “Who.”

And that is enough.

Because when you see God clearly,
you don’t need all the answers—
you need Him.

Key truth:
God’s presence is a better gift than God’s explanations.

  1. HOW WE RESPOND — HEAD, HEART, HANDS

HEAD — What we must know

  • God is infinitely wise and completely sovereign.
  • Our understanding is limited, but His rule is perfect.
  • Suffering does not mean God is absent—He is near.
  • God is Creator and Sustainer of all things—He laid earth’s foundations, commands the seas, directs the dawn, and governs the cosmos.
  • Human understanding is limited; God’s questions expose how little we grasp.
  • God’s response shifts Job from “Why?” to “Who?”
  • Suffering does not mean God is absent—He shows up and reveals Himself.
  • Key Truth:
God’s wisdom is infinite, and His rule over creation is purposeful and beyond our comprehension.

Action Step:
Live today with surrendered trust, worship, and humility because God is wise, present, and in control.

HEART — What we must feel

  • Awe at God’s majesty.
  • Humility about our limitations.
  • Comfort that the world is not on our shoulders.
  • Trust that God is good even when life is not.
  • Humility as we recognize our smallness in comparison to God’s greatness.

Heart Posture:
“Lord, You are bigger than my questions and closer than I realize.”

  •

HANDS — What we must do

  • Surrender control—stop demanding answers and start trusting God’s character.
  • Worship intentionally—let creation remind you daily of God’s greatness.
  • Encourage others with who God is, not with clichés.
  • Walk humbly—make decisions knowing God sees the whole picture.
  • Relief knowing the world is not held together by our strength.
  • Trust that the God who commands lightning can handle our pain and confusion.

CONCLUSION — THE GOD WHO SPEAKS

Job 38 is not a lecture.
It is an invitation.

An invitation to trust.
An invitation to worship.
An invitation to rest in the God who commands the morning, stores the snow, and names the stars.

And if He holds all that together…
He can hold you together too.

Final call:
Let God’s voice be louder than your storm.
